“Whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention. They are not only telling you something about the secret of who you are, but more often than not God is speaking to you through them of the mystery of where you have come from and is summoning you to where, if your soul is to be saved, you should go next.” – Frederick Buechner, Beyond Words, pg 383
We don’t know what’s next for us. Other than a hazy vision of buying an Adirondack farm and living happily ever after, we have no definitive plans.
Some call it crazy. Others wish for similar freedom. But the reality is, it is intimidatingly adventurous and comprehensively nerve-wracking.
The hardest part? Realizing who and what we left behind. Remembering the stories. Recounting the tears and sweat invested. And then wondering where in the world we will find similar like-minded people.
Today I am simply satisfied to remember the stories we invested in over the past several years…and to rest in the knowledge of the good still happening there.
As the tears roll down our face…we will let them lead us to where we go next.
