Ritual Review

Over the last few months I have been thinking out loud with others, asking for honest evaluation of some of the thoughts I might take for granted. As a pastor (and having grown up in church) it is easy to assume everyone understands and values the symbols we promote within the church world. Sometimes these living symbols (or narratives, stories, parables) get lost through time, abuse, misunderstanding (or just really poor teaching) and move from being helpful in the teaching about God, doctrine, and life…to just a ritual…just something church people do.
So, here is a list of stuff. What other rituals should be on the review list?
  • Communion (Eucharist, Lord’s Supper)
  • Baptism
  • Tithes and Offerings
  • Singing
  • Sunday Gathering
  • Preaching
  • Altars
  • Prayer
