Monday Musings and Other Random Thoughts
- It’s been awhile since the last post.
- We started a new series yesterday, Old News is Good News. We are looking at some of the Covenants in the Old Testament and how they point us to the good news of Christ.
- Someone asked me yesterday how we pulled off getting all the newspaper stands that are in the church…my response…a dark night, a pickup truck, and a lot of fun.
Actually they are a generous gift from The Lee’s Summit Journal. - If God did not respond in wrath to human sin and perversion, then one could justifiably ask whether God cares about human beings. God’s love, on the other hand, means that God is intimately involved in our lives and is invested in redeeming of all creation, including us humans. The term wrath, then, denotes God’s deep, heartfelt love for us – a love that burns hot and will not let us go. – Micheal Lodahl in The Story of God.
- A big shout out to James for dreaming up and pulling off the idea of printing our handouts (mini newspaper) on actual newspaper print.

- One of the hopes I have for nbc is that we be a place and people that are willing to embrace truth. Sometimes the journey toward truth hurts…actually most of the time it hurts.
- There are lots of areas that we the Church have not embraced truth in…some of our theology, our worship, our relationships with one another and the world around us, and even in our ecclesiology (how we do/are church).
- I am hoping to be a leader that is willing to speak truth…and live it too.
- Our leadership team meets again this week…pray for us. We are continuing to talk together about some God-sized dreams for our community. I believe God has placed us, equipped us, and is preparing us for a movement…truly, a once in a lifetime kind of thing that God is in the middle of…and I hope you are a part of it too.
- Some of the questions that we are dealing with as a leadership team: What would happen if our little church took seriously the mission field of Lee’s Summit? Would our community know we were gone if we closed this week? Are we willing to listen to how the church is perceived and hear the truth in it?

Shane,
I want you to know that I was so proud of you as my pastor yesterday. I was before then too. It was so awesome to hear you preach the truth in such a humble way. Truth that too many don’t hear or want to hear. It is a message that I have tried to speak about God’s love but yet his wrath. I love the way YOU spoke about how God loves us so much he gives us the choice to live life the way we want but with that we take on the consequences and all that comes with our disobedience. Thank you again for your obedience to preach the truth.
