BIG Prayers…

October 20, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Can I be completely honest with you?  I am praying a crazy prayer right now in my life. I am praying for a GOD sized vision for our church. What does a GOD-sized vision look like? Well, honestly I don’t have the full picture yet but what I do see is starting to scare me just a little. To say I am being stretched would be an understatement.  It is only scary because I recognize that in order to be what God is calling us to be we have to make some changes. Perhaps you have heard it said that we are all one major change away from major change.

Change stinks.  It isn’t fun. It is often even painful. But I refuse to let the discomfort of change keep us from fulfilling the mission God has given us.  One of the the ways to determine where we need to change is through asking the tough questions.  Right now I find myself asking the WHY behind everything we do at New Beginnings. Why do we do what we do the way we do (wow, I just wrote a sentence with 4 do’s in it), and what do we need to change in order to fulfill what God is calling us be?

How about you? What change needs to be addressed in your life for God to take you to the next level of your spiritual journey? What are you going to do about it this week?

Thanks for stating the same thoughts i’ve been thinking for many months now…….is what we do for the eternal?

Whenever I hear the word “change,” I am mindful of the acronym: “Come Have a New Growth Experience.” Sounds rather exciting, doesn’t it?

When I think of what that means in my life, I am challenged by specific disciplines that are, quite frankly, no brainers….reading the Bible, studying God’s Word, prayer and asking questions like, “Lord, give me eyes to see what it is You see…reveal areas in my life that are hindering me from going about what it is You would have for me. Oh! and this request is a huge one, “And Lord, help me not be a big chicken when it comes to following Your lead!”

A friend called this week and reminded me that in prayer, sometimes we do all the talking. This week, I want to do a better job in listening…

I sense God calling me, not into ‘busy’ work, but rather that which has eternal value.

I had a wonderful talk with a friend this last week about the necessity of philosophy in a person’s life. He pointed out quite succintly that Philosophy is the “why” and everything else we we learn is the “how” . . . Perhaps as believers we should always be asking “why” so we don’t screw up the “how”, nail our own philosophy of faith, obedience and grace and pursue the “how” with complete abandon knowing with confidence why we are doing what we are doing?
