It’s not mine…

It’s a lesson I’m learning right now…but it’s tough to always remember that all things belong to God. Even the material world around us, the computer that I am typing on…God’s, the clothes on my body…God’s, the house I own that I am no longer living in…God’s, it’s all His. Everything around us, spiritual and physical, is God’s…for the use of His purposes, His Kingdom, His Future…it is all HIS.

The question is, why am I holding on so tight to possessions and ideas that aren’t even mine to start with?

The truth is…nothing I call “my own” is really mine…it all belongs to God.

What are you hanging on too?

Pastor Shane I prayed this prayer in the back of the sanctuary your first Sunday here when you preached – have a story to tell you sometime soon – He has a great sense of humor and a way of moving very quickly when you turn it all over to Him though please know I am experiencing a great deal of freedom and joy and peace in the decision making . . . I’m reading Velvet Elvis. I am in the chapter entitled, “True.” As much as I’d like to be, I’m not a very deep thinker, so maybe I just don’t get it. Yes, “the world is God’s and everything in it,” but Paul says in 1 Corinthians, “All things are yours,……and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.” So, it all belongs to God, and Christ is of God, and you are of Christ, so……

Bell goes on to say, “If it is true, if it is beautiful, if it is honorable, if it is right, then claim it.” Again, I’m not deep, but what does he mean? I think he is talking about TRUTH being everywhere, claiming true values, beliefs, way of living. Where does the material world fit into this discussion?

The bible is a communal book, meant to be discussed and, as Bell puts it, “wrestled” with. Right?
