Have you ever heard the classic advice; if you are ever lost in the woods…stop, sit, and listen? It’s good advice, and not just for the woods…it’s also good in life.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
There are two instructions in this little verse; the first is to be still. Don’t just do something…stand still for a second or two. When we are so busy crashing through the trees and cutting out new paths, it is hard to hear if anyone is calling out our name. If you are looking for life direction, the best place to find it is standing still. Quiet yourself and tune your spiritual ears to God. He wants to speak clearly to you…and He will, if you would just stand still for awhile. The answer is not to force or self-create the next move, but to wait on God’s timing and plan long enough to determine what direction to head next. The best decisions we can make while looking for direction are to wait, pray, listen…until we know it’s from God, and then proceed.
The second instruction is the real crux…Know that I am God. It implies that we must place our trust in One who contains all power and knowledge, One who can see our past, present and future, and One who has purpose and plans for our lives. It’s about admitting our own inability to find the right direction, and acknowledging our desperate need of having direction from God. And it’s in this moment of trust we begin to realize the only way out of the forest is the path that leads us directly to Him.
Lost? Don’t just do something…stand there!

I’m standing…!)
Continuing to pray for God’s direction and leadership in your life.
