The Forgetful God

October 25, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

Do you remember what you had for lunch on Wednesday three weeks ago? Do you remember what day of the week your birthday was on last year? The truth is…we often forget things….we tend to forget things that are no longer important or relevant to us. (I sometimes even forget things that are very important…but that is another discussion.)

Did you know God is very forgetful? No, he doesn’t forget about his creation or his children….he doesn’t forget about the hurts or joys we experience…he doesn’t and will never forget the every detail of our lives…but God often forgets.

What does God forget? God forgets only one thing…our confessed sin. He declared it through his prophet Jeremiah and repeated it in the book of Hebrews: “I will forgive their sins, and remember them no more.”

It is on the basis that God forgives sin that he is able to forget our sin. God forgets our confessed sin! He doesn’t even remember it…so why do we so often live in the guilt of forgiven sin? Why should our confessed, forgiven, and forgotten sin hinder us from living a victorious life?

Do you have trouble believing God has forgiven you…then try believing in God’s forgetfulness! Trust him when he says, “I have forgiven you and remember your sins no more.”
